FaaScinating Resilience for Serverless Function Choreographies in Federated Clouds
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cloud applications often benefit from deployment on serverless technology Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), which may instantly spawn numerous functions and charges users for the period when are running. Maximum is achieved orchestrated in a workflow or function choreographies (FCs). However, many provider limitations specific FaaS, such as maximum concurrency duration increase failure rate, can severely hamper execution of entire FCs. Current support resilience limited to retries try-catch, applicable within same cloud region only. To overcome these limitations, we introduce rAFCL, middleware platform that maintains reliability complex FCs federated clouds. In order resilient FC under our model creates an alternative strategy each based required availability specified by user. Alternative strategies not restricted region, but contain across five providers, invoked concurrently single plan executed subsequently multiple plans. With this approach, rAFCL offers flexibility terms cost-performance trade-off. We evaluated running three real-life providers. Experimental results demonstrated outperforms AWS Step Functions, increasing success rate 53.45%, while invoking only 3.94% more with zero wasted invocations. significantly improves almost 1 survives even after massive failures functions.

Temporal Conformance of Federated Choreographies
Web service composition is a new way for implementing business processes. In particular, a choreography supportsmodeling and enactment of interorganizational business processes consisting of autonomous organizations. Temporal constraints are important quality criteria. We propose a technique for modeling temporal constraints in choreographies and orchestrations, checking whether the orchestrati...

Web Services technology is constantly gaining importance for automation of business processes. A major contribution of this technology is its integration capability, i.e. compositions allowing several autonomous but cooperating web services to implement a business process going beyond the boundaries of a single organization. Federated choreographies provide a framework for modular modeling comp...

On-demand access to computing resources asa-service has the potential to allow enterprises to temporarily scale out of their private data center into the infrastructure of a public cloud provider during times of peak demand. However, concerns about privacy and security may limit the adoption of this technique. We describe an approach to partitioning a software application (particularly a client...
متن کاملPower-aware server consolidation for federated clouds
Cloud computing has evolved to provide computing resources on-demand through a virtualized infrastructure, letting applications, computing power, data storage, and network resources to be provisioned and managed over private networks or over the Internet. Cloud services normally run on large data centers and demand a huge amount of electricity. Consequently, the electricity cost represents one ...
متن کاملResilience Issues for Application Workflows on Clouds
Two areas are currently the focus of active research, namely cloud computing and high-performance computing. Their expected impact on business and scientific computing is such that most application areas are eagerly uptaking or waiting for the associated infrastructures. However, open issues still remain. Resilience and loadbalancing are examples of such areas where innovative solutions are req...
